The see-through shirt trend is piping hot and I dig dig dig it! We are seeing all kinds of bras peeking through dainty shirts and a lot of celebrities are leading the way to ditch this ‘boob supporting’ contraption all together. The supporting piece, however, has been a source of controversy of late with some reports calling women to lose the bra and free to the nipple! Articles are circulating in the interweb, that contrary to what we have believed, bras supposedly do nothing to prevent boobs from sagging and going without apparently make them perkier! If you start digging deeper, however, you will find that the studies behind this actually go back and forth on this perky I mean pesky issue so I think more research needs to be done for solid conclusions in the matter. I, for my part, have replaced underwire bras for soft, wireless bras and bralets for purely comfort reasons and this already feels liberating and amazing in itself!
I used to be a solid 32C or 34B pre-children, then the boobs grew immensely during pregnancy and breastfeeding stages and after that, down to a smaller 32B. I used to augment the size by wearing padded push-ups but at this stage of my life, I really could care less! I am embracing smaller boobs and don’t feel the need to show off fuller, cheated versions of them.
I love seeing this nipple freeing movement gain momentum but I am way too chicken to go bra-less myself in public. It is awkward for me to have them bounce around or for the nipples to show through shirts – I am just too self conscious! Surely, it is more a matter of getting used to it and who knows, maybe I just need to take the plunge. Once you go bare rack, you never go back? For right now, showing off my bra is as far as I will take it. Ask me again in a couple of months, though, I may have changed my mind by then 😉
Here are some interesting articles I found on the ‘to bra or not to bra’ controversy:
pros and cons of going braless
For this look, I went old school with my Adidas sweatpants and Adidas Superstars. I looove mixing textures and feels so I went comfy chic with sassy see through lace. The velvet jacket is from Zara’s winter sale of last year. I bought a bunch of velvet pieces on sale last season because it’s so 90’s reminiscent and luckily it’s become all the rage this year. I love when that happens!
