Athleisure is my mid-week uniform because like many other moms, I am constantly on the go! I have a few male friends who complain about how laissez-faire the fashion is in Denver and how they don’t like seeing yoga pants outside of yoga studios (gasp!) – how dare we not change back into civilian clothing after work-out! Athletic wear has infiltrated everyday casual fashion but let’s be honest, it has come a very long way for a good purpose.
Fitness wear nowadays is designed to look stylish inside and outside of the gym. Some yoga pants look like regular leggings, only made more durable and stretchy, which is great in case you feel like the occasional tree pose or round house kick when out and about- no tears in the crotch possible here. Jokes aside, even looking after your children requires maneuvers and sprints reserved usually for gym time.
The athleisure movement has catered to women who want it all: a family, a career, healthy lifestyle, fit bodies and minds and (gasp again!) a social life in between. I don’t know about you, but my day is filled with caring for little ones -who at age 2 and 4 still want me to pick them up all the time- household chores, grocery shopping, working from home, taking a class at the gym, coffee runs and sometimes (not often enough) a quick drink or lunch with friends. If I were to dress appropriately for each of these duties/activities, I would only get half of them done.
And to be brutally honest, screw the ones complaining you should not be wearing your gym wear in public! This is how I fit a fitness routine into my very busy life. The alternative would be cutting back on one or more activities I’m trying to squeeze into 24 hours and if I were to skimp on work-out and instead let myself go, guess who would be the first ones to complain about that? Exactly.
Stay tuned for more posts about my personal fitness picks and athletic wear to come. Working on a post about my recent Krav Maga yellow belt which was rewarding and eye opening all at once.
In the meantime, here’s some inspo on how to style a simple sweatshirt. Oversized sweatshirts is what I live in. Enjoy!
